Review 11/21/2010
This is my first posting ,ever, anywhere, but I need to share my anger and frustration, and, if possible, protect others from a similar experience. I bought my wedding dress at Bay Area Bridal in Cupertino. They ordered it from Waters and Waters. The dress is beautiful and cost $1600. I am a small person and the dress is very form-fitting. At my fitting, the seamstress and I agreed the dress would look best let out just a bit in the hips. On Sept.28, at my final fitting ,the Bay Area Bridal seamstress, a friend who was with me, and I all pronounced the dress “perfect”. My wedding took place on Oct. 9th, less than two weeks later. As I was getting dressed, the zipper on the dress completely broke. The zipper on this form-fitting dress was plastic and could not be fixed. I do not need to describe the trauma that ensued; it was one of the very worst moments of my life. Fortunately, a friend of my mothers had a sewing kit and considerable sewing skill. She sewed me into the dress. I was an hour late to my own wedding. We lost the first half-hour of our reception and had to pay extra to extend the party. We fully expected that when we returned the dress to Bay Area Bridal and told our story they would be as appalled as we were and refund our money immediately. Instead they denied any responsibility, took my measurements, and said I had grown two sizes and that the zipper had broken because I was too big for the dress. For obvious reasons, this is insulting and ridiculous: 1. The dress fit perfectly (according to their seamstress) less than two weeks before the wedding. I was very careful about my eating during that time, but even if I hadn’t been, do they think I went from a size 0 to a size 4 in 10 days? 2. Even if my latest measurements are somewhat different from my original ones, they were taken more than three weeks after the wedding – after I had been on a one week, all-inclusive, honeymoon. My mom and I are taking Bay Area Bridal to small claims court. We recommend you not do business with them, or with Waters and Waters – not because the zipper on the dress broke, but because they so completely refused to stand by their product.
