I am an MD and recently had to relocate to Boston from the Midwest for a new position. I looked at the hospital's affiliated moving companies and after creating a detailed list of my belongings, I sent out inquiries for quotes. I went with the company, Global Relogistics, that provided the most affordable estimate. They subcontracted North America Transfer to carry out the move.
As it dawned on me not much later in the process, the low initial estimate was there to deceive the unsuspecting customer into signing the initial retainer with them. The extensive discussions made over the phone prior to signing - about narrow pick up and delivery date windows, the possibility of mild price hikes in case of heavier items, promises of daily updates from the truck driver - all went out the window the moment I signed. For an amount that was still not impossible to cover, despite the $9.5/hour that we, surgery residents make on average. But North America Transfer continued their unscrupulous practice by adding even more charges to the bill of lading AFTER I had signed it, and were requesting more than 200% of the binding estimate price in order to relinquish my belongings. Which is illegal. When I asked for documents to justify the over-inflated bill, they were unable to produce them. They even threatened to lock my items in storage and eventually auction them off, if I do not agree to meet their unrealistic demands. When I spoke with the company manager, he declined to provide his full name and hung up on me. A company that declined to honor the legal contracts that both parties signed.
STAY AWAY FROM THESE TWO COMPANIES. You’ll be helping the unsuspecting, hard-working American not fall prey to these unscrupulous and fraudulent businesses.
