I had a bad experience with this company last weekend. They had fixed a cord on my vacuum earlier, along with a tune-up, at a cost of more than $135, but the new cord was splitting and breaking to the point that I shocked myself. I took it back in and asked them to replace it again. I unwound the cord and showed him the split places. I made sure the man at the shop knew it had been replaced by them. I asked them to use better quality. I also asked that they look at the bottom of the vaccum to see if it should fit better. He said, "That'll be $20." I gave him the money in cash, thinking that was for the bottom plate repair. He called four hours later and said it would cost more than $125. He blamed me for the cord falling apart, saying I had been running over it with the vacuum. I hadn't been, and the first broken part in the cord was up at the top of the handle, where it couldn't touch the floor. When I told him I'd thought he'd replace the cord free, he told me to come get the vacuum and then hung on me. In the shop, I got the vacuum and asked for the $20 back. He refused to return it. He berated me, told me to leave his shop and kept saying, "What's wrong with you? You don't read English?" He said his policy is $20 for the estimate and a 30-day limit on warranties, but his receipts don't say that and he doesn't tell you that when he asks for the money upfront. He pointed to two small, hand-drawn signs that were amid a sea of signs in the shop. I admit I had not seen those signs when I first came in, but I had done business here before. I always bought my bags here and had had tune-ups done here before, so if this was a new policy, I wasn't aware of it. But he insisted that I could not get the $20 back, even though he hadn't done any work. I think he should have been less confrontational and rude. I would have been OK with even splitting the $20 with him, but I don't think there was any chance of a compromise at all. He just wanted me to leave his shop and be done with me.
